    On December 6, 2019, Sterling Capital’s parent company, BB&T Corporation and SunTrust Banks closed the merger of equals and became Truist Financial Corporation, the sixth largest U.S. commercial bank. Sterling continues to be an independently operated subsidiary of BB&T Corporation now Truist Financial Corporation.

  • 2018

    Sterling Capital Funds offered R6 Share Class.

  • 2015

    AUM topped $50 billion. The Stratton Relative Value Team joins SCM following BB&T’s purchase of Susquehanna Bancshares.

  • 2013

    CHOICE Asset Management combined with SCM and named the Equity Opportunities Team.

  • 2010

    SCM and BB&T restructured ownership. BB&T Asset Management merged into Sterling. Advisory Solutions was formed.

  • 2008

    The Behavioral Finance Team was created by existing personnel at SCM.

  • 2006

    AUM topped $10 billion.

  • 2005

    BB&T Corporation purchased a majority equity ownership stake in Sterling Capital Management, LLC (SCM).

  • 2001

    Became an employee owned firm.

    AUM topped $1 billion.

    Sterling merged with Trinity Capital Advisors.

  • 1984

    Sterling sold to United Asset Management.

  • 1981

    Sterling Management was named Top Manager in the Country by Frank Russell Co.

  • 1977

    Sterling Management bought from Interstate Securities.

  • 1973

    Nisbet, Inc. renamed Sterling Management Company. Becomes subsidiary of Interstate Securities.
