About Andy’s favorite Sterling tradition, the qualities he thinks are the most important in the investment industry, and the book that really had an impact on him:
- Q: What is your favorite Sterling tradition?
- A: The annual holiday party is a fun time where the whole firm gets together, and you can get to know some work colleagues on an individual level. We also have an annual “award” ceremony that celebrates funny and awkward situations that occur throughout a stressful year. The nominees and winners are not aware or informed ahead of time, and the reactions are hilarious and priceless!
- Q: What three qualities do you think are most important to have when working in the investment industry?
- A: Perseverance, ability to accept failure, learn and then move on, and speed. Whether it’s new product, trading, or mathematical ability, being first can be a strength. Even when you’re right, if you act too slowly, the market has already moved.
- Q: What is your favorite book, podcast or show?
- A: My favorite book is the World According to Garp by John Irving. I know it became a movie but in High School it was a book that really had an impact on me. It showed me that being different and surviving through stressful incidents was possible. Also found it really funny and quirky!
It’s great to have you on our team, Andy! Thank you for everything you do, and for sharing this with us.
